Children’s Medical Aid Foundation is partnering with Public Health Concern Trust of Nepal (phect-NEPAL) to improve the availability and quality of healthcare for women, children and trauma victims in Eastern Nepal. In 2009 and 2010, we participated in Phase I of the Itahari Hospital project, helping to raise funds for the purchase of land for the hospital campus. Bay Area architects STRATAa/p worked with Nepal architect Rajesh Strestha to complete draft renderings and architectural plans for the new facility. The hospital is in close proximity to the main East-West highway intersection to better serve automobile accident victims and trauma patients.
When completed, this hospital will provide the following services:
- Reconstructive surgery for children with congenital defects
- Surgical repair of post burn contractures
- Pediatric Services
- Outpatient Department
- OB/GYN Services
- Emergency Room/Trauma Center for traffic accident victims
The Itahari Hospital Project is truly a collaborative endeavor. The local Itahari community has embraced the project and contributed funds to purchase the building site. The Itahari Hospital Construction Committee meets regularly in Nepal with representatives from the local Pakali Village Development Committee, phect-NEPAL and Nepalese Rotary Clubs. Rotary Clubs in Nepal and the U.S. work together to provide funding support as well as assistance in the selection and procurement of building supplies.
A google search of my hometown Itahari led me to this website. I have lived outside Itahari since 1994 but I try at least to visit once in at least two years.
There are millions of ways to help and you have addressed one of the pressing issue. I had seen injuries from accident very closely .Growing up I have heard many deaths due to the lapse of time in traveling to hospital with a fatal condition . I do appreciate what you have done and I wanted to thank you so much for your effort. I am very passionate about rural development and it always inspires me if I run across someone who has devoted the time.
